Cafe Assistant – Volunteer Role Description

Crownway Community Centre is looking for people who can help out in our friendly community café once a week. You will work with the Café Worker and fellow volunteers to run the Café successfully and create a welcoming atmosphere for the Centre. The tasks may vary depending on your skills and preference.

The role could involve the following tasks:

  • Providing a friendly service to all users of Crownway Community Centre
  • Preparing food such as toasts, eggs, sandwiches, etc.
  • Making and serving drinks
  • Taking orders and serving food
  • Clearing and wiping tables
  • Washing-up dishes and using the dishwasher
  • General cleaning and tidying of kitchen area

Requirements:

  • Being able to prepare basic food and drinks following the instructions of the Café Worker
  • Friendly and patient attitude towards customers
  • Willingness to learn
  • Teamwork skills
  • Commitment to join the Café once a week for approximately 4 hours (between 10 am- 14 pm)

Training:

  • A basic induction will be offered to all volunteers that will include a brief history of the centre, who’s who and basic policies and procedures.
  • Food Hygiene Training will be offered free of charge.

Expenses: All volunteers will be offered a free drink and will also be able to buy a meal for half the price from our community cafe. Crownway Community Centre will pay for the volunteers Food Hygiene level 1 or  2 training.

Please note: No legal contract or relationship of employment is being created by this volunteer role description.
